2020 is quickly drawing to a close and many of us can't wait to turn the calendar page to a new year! What a year it's been. One thing for certain, like never before this world is feeling it together and it is so apparent what a small interconnected planet we live on. 

On that small interconnected planet, we are connected by music as well, and everyone, everywhere can listen to great music produced by artists they will never know. A small segment of that musical world that I peek into every day is the fingerstyle guitar genre. So much good fingerstyle guitar music is being produced these days by incredible and talented musicians, and I'm here to put a smile on their faces every Monday morning!

Daryl Shawn, an incredibly talented fingerstyle artist himself, makes my job easy as he sorts through all the new releases each week and chooses a new "top ten" featuring a representative current best in the world of fingerstyle and adds the new top ten to "The most exciting playlist on Spotify" every Monday morning! "This Week in Fingerstyle" curated by Daryl Shawn is where you'll find the absolute best that true "Indie" has to offer in the world of fingerstyle! Daryl does all the selecting of the tunes, I just make a few comments. Put your headphones on or AirPods in and disappear into these wonderful sounds as we check out what gems Daryl found for us this week! "This Week" now has over 500 "Followers" enjoying this weekly treat!

First up this week is "Song For You To Stay", a holiday piece by Franco Morone! A beautiful piece that rings of home and hearth and warm firesides! Beautiful piece for the holidays Franco!

"What's Behind the Dusk?" by Zar Acoustic is an epic piece that thrills with innovation and complete mastery while evoking a deep almost religious experience. A truly epic piece Zar, wow!

"The Dedication" by Glenn Roth celebrates Hanukkah with a beautiful flowing melody line and a deep respect for this hopeful & inspiring time of year! Wonderful piece Glenn!

"Jump" by Mike Dawes is Mike's incredible version of the classic Eddie Van Halen hit! Perfection in a cover! Just give it a listen!

"Little Memories" by Lance Allen is sweet and gentle evoking those wonderful times of years gone by. A much needed piece for this crazy year. Sit back and let Lance take you back to better times!

"Razzmatazz" by Sifra & Julio Melio is an exciting blend of two guitars that know how to stir your soul! Wonderful!

"Hallelujah" by John Evergon is John's take on Leonard Cohen's classic made famous by Jeff Buckley and others. True to Buckley's version but with a style by John that takes it further! Just what we needed as this year closes out: Hallelujah, we made it!!! Really nice work John!

"Remembrance" by Dustin Furlow is brilliant guitarmanship and composition delivered in a floating, flawless guitar journey that rhythmically descends from a suspended beautiful melody! As soothing as guitar work gets! Beautiful Dustin!

"Rest Area" by August Flendahl is sweet nylon guitar by one of Tommy Berre's other monikers. That sweet intersection of melancholy and calm that Tommy does so well! 

And to close out this week's top ten is the brilliant work of Casper Esmann with the classic "In the Air Tonight". Casper's inimitable ability to fully capture the complete essence of every cover he performs makes me smile every time he releases another. Perfection!

And don't stop there! Remember that all the past selections follow the new top ten starting with "Amazing Grace" by Maneli Jamal!  One of the most-covered songs ever written, but Maneli brings something new with this ethereal, airy take. Thrilling!

"Artistry Tuesday" - featuring Stephen Wake

“Artistry Tuesday” by Randal L Meek Stephen Wake features heavily in my repeating Thursday tribute to Celtic music: he is the real deal! Hailing from the island of Orkney, Scotland, Stephen is well-versed in everything Celtic music has to offer, from airs & hornpipes to jigs & reels and beyond! An artist's musical journey often takes a circuitous route before finding their musical home and  Stephen 's began with the influences of Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and rock 'n roll. From there the journey took him to a focus on the Spanish guitar of Tarrega and Torroba and then the music of Latin America. Finally, Stephen's musical heart returned to the roots of western music, and the land of his birth received the full gift of his talent. And what a gift! "This Week in Fingerstyle" curated by Daryl Shawn! Put your headphones on or AirPods in and disappear into these wonderful sounds! First up is "Electric Soul" by the dynamo duo of Rodrigo Y Gabriela! This husband & wife guitar duo turned the music world on its head in 2006 with the eponymous " Rodrigo Y Gabriela " album and haven't looked back. They may have done more for the resurgence of the nylon string guitar in popular music that anyone else on the planet. It doesn't get any better than the music that these two make! "Tiento Antiguo" = Wow! Daryl Shawn has again astounded me with another piece that has escaped my ears until now. Have to check out the Rodrigo library ASAP! Unbelievably beautiful!
