If you've ever wandered the streets of Adelaide, AU, you may have been captivated by the siren call of a musical instrument that you can't quite place, somewhere between a guitar and a base, but not really either. An enchanting call that draws you to find the source before it disappears on the wind. If you were lucky enough to trace the source you may have already found Andy Salvanos and his Chapman Stick!

Some musicians are larger than life, and in his own way, Andy Salvanos is one of those musicians. A true gentleman with a dry, comforting wit, articulate, with just a touch of self-deprecation, Andy is a world ambassador for the unusual and compelling Chapman Stick.

Growing up in a musical household, his mother was a classical pianist, Andy learned to read music around age 6-7, and then pursued sports. An invite to play bass redirected his attention and rekindled his love for music. From there Andy segued into the Chapman Stick focusing on original compositions on this most unusual and enticing member of the guitar family. Thirty-five years later you'll often find Andy as a street musician "busking" on the streets of Adelaide where he has the often daily chance to interact with and really get to know his audience. Most audiences are stunned with the beautiful sounds of an instrument they have never encountered before and become instant fans of Andy! Building a worldwide audience through the medium of street musician is hard work, but Andy managed to parlay these street performances into sales of over 30,000 album purchases by die-hard fans! Today's "streaming world" for musicians is a different landscape and Andy has embraced Spotify, Apple Music and other streaming platforms as the "new world of music dissemination" where Andy has managed over 1,000,000 total streams.  That embrace has included collaborations with other musicians including pianist Jesse Brown and their just-released collaboration "Crawl Spaces" has finally garnered coveted "Spotify Editorial" playlist placements on Spotify's "Classical New Releases" and "Atmospheric Piano" playlists with a combined follower audience of over half a million!

Listening to Andy's music I often mistake the sound for a guitar but with an airy and ethereal quality that grabs you, lifts you and leaves you feeling as though you are soaring above the clouds. Andy's music is possibly the closest one can get to heaven "this side of the daisies". Had Andy been around playing his Chapman Stick at the height of the gothic cathedral era, I believe he would have been sought after by kings, potentates and popes to fill the air of those resonating halls with the sounds of the 2011 "Air" or "Solace".

Andy's recent collaboration with Matt Tondut, "Silver Lining", was featured as part of the "Dream Chasers, Vol. 1" album on Valley View Records and as stated above, Andy's hard work and talent has now captured the "brass ring" of Spotify with placements on Spotify Editorial playlists! You'll also love "And Then Daylight", the collaboration with guitarist Tommy Berre, where you can hear Tommy's nylon-string guitar paired with Andy's unique Chapman Stick sound! And Andy's collaboration with multi-instrumentalist John Clark, "Wings of Change" is truly divine with the juxtaposition of mandolin and Chapman Stick!

Andy's talent, music and technique continue to develop and evolve even after 35 years of musicianship and he is at the top of his game making the world a better place with his beautiful sound! Enjoy some Andy Salvanos today & every day!
