"The most exciting playlist on Spotify" reloaded again for a great Monday morning, and the first of the new decade! "This Week in Fingerstyle" curated by Daryl Shawn! Daryl does all the selecting of the tunes, I just make a few comments. Put your headphones on or AirPods in and disappear into these wonderful sounds as we check out what gems Daryl found for us this week on this last monday of the decade!

First up is the title track "Good Light to Go By" from the just-released album of Vin Downes. This is exquisite guitar in every sense, from the insight, brilliance and sensitivity of the artist/composer to the recording quality achieved at Imaginary Road Studio with master sound engineer Tom Eaton! This is essentially the perfect album written as an album and performed by one of today's master guitarists. All I can say is: don't miss this one. Go listen and buy the album today even if you only buy one album this year.

"In Dialogue" is Ulli Boegershausen & Andrew York nylon string brilliance at its best. This exquisite piece shows off the classically trained finesse of these two master guitarists with a spanish/classicall influenced piece that fits well just about anywhere, from neoclassical to new age. This is a 3-minute master class by two qualified professors. Truly beautiful!

"With Feeling" by Matt Harp starts out with a haunting progression and then moves into a beautiful flow that shows off Matt's total command of the fretboard and modern fingerstyle technique and ends where it began with the sweet melody. Fantastic!

"Marillio" by Chris Chambers is spanish influenced late evening café music that thrills with its gritty edge and hard hitting tone. Not an ounce of "fluff" in this one, just straight on, grab you by your belt music! Love it!

"Prelude No. 10" by Nikita Koshkin & Asya Selyutina is sophisticated, complex straight-up classical music. Not "easy listening" music, you could find this being performed in any major symphony hall where you can hear a pin drop and "hold your cough & sniffles" is de riguer. Wonderful to hear!

"Dandelion Clock" by Nik Davies is a romantic piece that will have you wanting to hold your loved one close! This is my favorite Nik Davies' piece since "Tanglewood Rhyme". I do love how Nik makes me want to immediately hunt for a copy of the tablature of her music! Well done Nik!

"Mike and Billy" by Mark Grundhoefer is a tremendous piece: complex enough to keep me transfixed yet entertaining enough to let my mind wander at times and just enjoy the beauty. The complex hammer-ons are worth serious study alone! The diversity of technique, unusual chord changes and beautiful runs show off an artist who can stand head to head with anyone on the scene today. Wow!!!

"America" by Glenn Roth is a beautiful Simon & Garfunkel cover that manages to maintain the exquisite beauty of the original while showing off the tune with just Glenn's guitar skills. Glenn always amazes me with his covers and this one does not disappoint! No wonder I saw him recently sharing the stage with Tommy Emmanuel!

"Highlands" by Kyle McEvoy is one of my favorite tunes from the recent "Woodworks, Vol. 1" album on the Sonder House label. Americana, feel-good, beautiful music! Could listen to this all day!

"Nights" by Sebastian Winskog is the perfect choice to close out the new top ten on "This Week" with a "set closing" piece that shows off the skill and beauty of the space between notes as much as the actual notes. This is a piece to play at the end of a mesmerizing program where you have thrilled the audience and have them in the palm of your hands! A beautiful piece!

And that completes the new top ten for this week and this decade! You will now find all the past "This Week in Fingerstyle" music following this week's new ten so you can enjoy all that this wonderful playlist has brought to the world of fingerstyle! Enjoy!

Daryl Shawn, thank you again for making my Monday mornings a very special and exciting part of every week!
